Kickin’ it Down the Yellow Brick Road
This years script written by Laurie Ryan, is a spin off of Frank Baum’s Wizard of Oz Collection of stories.  The story begins on a school playground where Dottie is being harassed and bullied by Mean Jean, the school bully and her groupies.  Through song and dance she is mystically carried away to a safe place… The Land of Oz.  It is there that she meets the traditional characters that teach each other life lessons as they kick it down the yellow brick road.  When they reach the City of Emeralds, Ozzie tells them they must confront the Queen Jean Bully and teach her a better way to co-exist.  As with all Extraordinary Players productions there is a moral and a lesson to be learned by everyone and this year’s is “Don’t let the past dictate who you are, let it dictate who you are to become.”  Kickin’ It is a musical with a cast of 40 pre-K thru 5th grade students with varying intellectual abilities, a diverse student population, and a spectrum of social backgrounds from Newland Elementary.
