HOOKED ~ This year’s script, written by Laurie Ryan, with music and choreography by Justin Carver, was adapted from JM Barrie’s tales of Peter Pan. With some twists and turns it accommodates a large cast of 55.

In 1999, Extraordinary Players performed a modified version of Peter Pan at each of Avery Counties elementary and middle schools. It included students and principals from those schools as part of the cast to support the players and to better understand the importance of inclusion of differences. That was the beginning of Extraordinary Players and it has since then evolved into the complexity of HOOKED.

HOOKED takes place in NYC at the home of the Darling Family with Father, as a news reporter for the NY Times, searching for THE BIG STORY. It is there that Pan and Tink with her 6 fairies-in-training entice the children into an awfully big adventure to Neverland. Pan is searching for STORIES for his Lost Kids of Neverland like the ones mother read every night at the Darling house. As they pass over the lagoon of mystical and eerie mermaids, Hook and his pirates have the Darlings on their radar. For you see, Hook is also looking for stories of good form that he remembers his mother telling him every night before bed and BEFORE the CROC took his hand.

As with all Extraordinary Player’s productions there is a moral and a lesson to be learned. This year’s quote from Carl Sagan, “Imagination will often carry us to world’s that never were. But without it we go nowhere.”So open your minds to experience a very big adventure ~ HOOKED.
