Change in schedule

I hope you have all received your notices of the schedule changes for next week.  Since we will be having school on Monday, January 18, we will have practice for scenes 5-6.  On  Wednesday, January 20, only a select group will have dance practice with Mr. Carver and me. These practices will last until 3:30.  HOWEVER, starting January 25 practices will last until 4:00 p.m.  On February 11-12, Ms. Jessie will  be here to have the students paint the scenery.  It will take place in the art room at NES during regualr school hours and students may stay until 4:30 (with permission) to help after school.  More information on this activity will follow.

Practices are important

Snow days are already interfering in our practices.  So every Monday it is important to come and be prepared to learn all we can about The Cinder Five so that we can perform a great show in April.  This Monday, January 11 is practice for scene 4.  I am beginning to get costumes in and will be trying them on the players so that adjustments and additions can get started. Ms. Jessie will be at Newland to paint the scenery with our students February 11-13.  Mark that on your calendars for volunteering your help with the students. See you Monday.  Practice untl 3:30ish.

Scenes 1, 2, 3 Memorized for Monday, December 14

If you have noticed I haven’t been blogging much this year because there are some computer problems, but I am going to give it a shot again. The Players are working hard to memorize their lines, cues, actions, dances, and songs for scenes 1-3. We are slowly making progress even with all the absences due to illnesses and whatever else comes down the pike. Remembering that the play is a month earlier this year, we have to be making some great strides to move forward at a faster pace. We have not even gone over scenes 4-10 so after Christmas vacation things will start cranking up. I hope to send the lines for scenes 4, 5, 6 home on the 21st so you can become familiar with the lines and story sequence. All the music is not in place as of yet so there will be many changes to be made along the way. I will be asking for parental help again this year with un-stapling and then stapling new canvas onto the panels to be ready for painting with Ms.Jessie. I will also be needing some help finding or making props, costumes, etc. Please let me know how you will be able to help . This year’s cast of The Cinder Five is awesome to work with. They are so interested in making a great show and outdoing last year’s production.I have told them that will be a very huge task but I am SURE THEYcan do it. Please help your player learn their lines and become their character.

First Day Wows

WOW!  We had an awesome turnout for Monday’s first theater class.  Almost everyone was in attendance and ready to rock and roll.. We did not have a shy, reticent person in the bunch and it was a toss up on who the “best ” dancers were,,,,,the boys or the girls.  With the talent that we saw on Monday I am sure we will be able to produce a fantastic show for our audiences.  Speaking of the show….I have it scheduled for April 20 (evening show for community and parents) and April 21 day show for Avery County Schools at Farthing Auditorium , ASU, Boone.  The play title is still TOP SECRET.  I am looking forward to the next few weeks of theater class to see just who would fit what role in the storyline and then begin fine tuning my script.

Extraordinary Players Return Forms

The forms have gone out last Friday to all 4-5th graders and selected others  about their interest in becoming an Extraordinary Player this year.  I have not  received very many back and will begin to open it up to other students if I have not heard back by Tuesday from those who have received the letter first.  It is imperative that the letters be returned soon so that I can begin making plans for a susessful year.  I am excited about this year and all the possibilites.  So hurry and return all the forms.
